I have a 2010 and can get a 2012 with bad glass, but can I switch the 2010 glass for the 2012?

Not as far as I know. If I recall correctly, the 2012 is the first model with the glass laminated to the screen, so they get replaced as a unit. The 2009-2011 iMacs have the glass separate from the display, as far as I know the glass is interchangeable between them.

Joe is correct -- They arent compatible.

2012 doesn't actually have a separate glass piece.

Replacement glass for the 2010 is about $50?

I just checked on iFixit, and yes the display is laminated to the glass.

if the 2012 is cracked -- its the actual screen, not protective glass like the older model had.

Ur looking at $5-700.

If the crack is really bad, and you have the space, you could use the iMac as a CPU/GPU and bypass the screen and use an external. Maybe a nice 32" 4K.

Thanks. I also just watched a replacement video. But the glass appears to be fused to the screen, perhaps? I've seen the crack in the screen and it looked almost superficial as if it didn't affect the image. Dunno.

Correct, simalr to an iDevice. It can get superficial cracks, but still work.
