no contacts in Messages

After migrating my old MBP (running Mojave) to my new MBP (running Catalina), I've found that non of my contacts are displayed in Messages. They all show up, but they show up as phone numbers or emails.

All these people are in my Contacts and they are all synced to iCloud. But Messages doesn't display them.

Hmmm...that did the trick. In all honesty, I have never in my life "signed out" of Messages on a Mac. I had to google how to do it. I guess its alway just been one of those things I never questioned but was always logged in when I set up a new computer with my Apple ID.

Yes, I’ve had to deal with that a couple of times on Mac and iPad.
