Heard this on the radio recently and it hit me like a ton of bricks for some reason. It is much more profound to me than when I heard it in my younger days.

It always make me think about my late wife.

The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” after hearing what it’s really about (Mia Farrow’s sister took transcendental meditation in India very seriously, and wouldn’t come out to play with the others. Worried about her, John would sing outside her abode, trying to bring her out.

A lot of Steely Dan's more world-weary songs, which is crazy because they were all written when Fagan and Becker were in their 20's.

Funny that this started with a Don Henley song, as his stuff is generally a counter-example for me. I was really impressed with him as a teenager, but much less so as I aged and developed better Pretentiousness filters...

I loved Metallica as a teen, but I thought "One" and the entire Justice for All album kinda pretentious. I get the song as a meditation on PTSD.

Loved U2's "One" as well, came out just as I met the girl I would marry, and it hurt more as that too young marriage fell apart...
Same for "End of the Innocence"

I was shopping with my mom and we saw an Elvis Gospel album, I bought it for her. I always liked Elvis, she was a 50's teeny bopper. We listened to "Peace In The Valley" together. She Passed Away about year later on Oct 5, and I listen to this song every year today and her birthday.

I liked "I Want to Tell You" by the Beatles as a teenager, but when I fell in love with my first wife, and was so confused by it..the song made more sense.

I loved NIN's "Hurt" but I heard Cash's version right as I lost a child hood friend to an OD, I was driving with my teen daughter, and I had to pull over and broke down crying.

I thought I could understand Nick Cave's "Faraway So Close" but after my mother passed, I REALLY understood it.

Definitely not just PTSD. It covers many more topics. PTSD. War (in general). Landmines as horrible weapons of war. Living in a crippled body. Right to death. You name it.

In recent years and recent viewings, the final scene of Wagner's Siegfried is extraordinary.

Listening after so many years to the protest songs of Phil Ochs.

We Five and Chad and Jeremy were strong at the time and still good.

I stayed up late one night and watched the documentary about country music, and it was interesting to see Roger Miller after hearing his "Dang Me" and others mainly on car radios. The Patsy Cline songs still resonate (pun intended).

Mahler's 4th symphony is amazing.

As my wife and I were about to get to the golf course on Sunday, The Long and Winding Road (The Beatles) played. Then 10 min later a friend stood a bit too far in front of me on the tee box. I told him that my drives sometimes are reflected in that song; he moved back and out of harm's way!
