"Removes support for Adobe Flash for improved security"

I suppose all good things must ... nah I just can't.

Adobe: we're discontinuing Flash, finally

Macromedia, back in 2005: Thanks for the check! Too bad people were already hating Flash by the time you bought it.

from the grave of FutureWave Software: You're both welcome.

Flash support from Adobe officially ends in December, so Apple ending it early in their latest version of Safari makes sense.

Obligatory question:

What is this Flash, of which you speak?

The closest I've come to it is using Firefox, and they're going to drop it too.

Truth be told, I never if Firefox is working on a site that gives my older version of Safari trouble, if it's because I don't have Flash, or I need to update my OS and Safari.

I should update my OS and Safari.

It's not new content, for the most part. It's legacy sites that don't have the resources or interest in upgrading their video...

Oh and guys I should report that I did finally find a site that doesn't seem to work properly under the new Safari 14 -- it is (perhaps unsurprisingly) the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board, which is a complete hot mess independent of their crappy old-fashioned website. I'm not sure why their website doesn't work with it, but I'm guessing it's some sort of Flash- or Java-based weirdness and not a big deal, because I can use either Firefox or Opera for it, which seem to work fine. All of the other sites I use (including banking sites, etc.) seem to work fine with Safari.

Main use I still have is a few web based games that are written in Flash. One had a GM say it was planned to be converted to something else by the end of this year, but apparently they laid off a bunch of staff back in April due to COVID. So it is looking like that game will be going away,

Up until I retired in August the student payroll and timekeeping used web based software requiring Flash. My work PC was kept on one of the Firefox ESR versions. At least that software was updated about a year and a half ago to remove its Java requirement so the PC could move to a more recent version of Firefox.

The number of kids "edu-tainmet" sites that still require Flash make me cry on a weekly basis...
I get calls from teachers ALL the time asking me to "make Flash work" on their computers (I've stopped installing it... years after I should have).
I get calls ALL the time to "make this (flash based) site work on the Chromebooks"... I have to explain AGAIN that Adobe has abandoned Flash, and it's up to the SITE to update their content away from Flash. I can't magically "update the site".

Freedom is on the horizon...

I turned off Flash long ago, and kinda forgot about it. I haven't encountered a site that requires it in several years, so I guess I don't miss it at all.
