Do I want a Fire stick?

They're only $5 for Prime Day.

I currently watch Prime video through my Cable TV TiVo box, but it's slow to load up the directory, and then another 30 seconds or more to load the episode I've chosen. Since my internet comes through the same cable, though, I wonder if it would really save me any time, or just be another remote to keep track of.

I probably watch about 5 hours of TV per week. In winter, that will roughly double.

The interface is WAY better than any cable box. $5 - that's a steal.

Which one is $5?

I've heard that any of them besides the 4K version is dog slow. Just what I've heard though. I have a 4K version but have not hooked it up yet.

This is the 4k version, but by invitation only from Amazon.

(and a good thing, I agree the 4k is faster than the original. But both have great remotes!)

Depends on your TV. Most current smart sets already have Prime.
With 2 LGs, my 4K Stick is retired (plus I have ATV4K & Comcrap FLEX).
But no cable, OTA and streaming only.

Lists for $30 on my Amazon page. I have one on the TV upstairs and my wife has been happy with it. Be nice to have a second one, just in case.

Lists for $30 on my Amazon page. I have one on the TV in one bedroom and another on the TV in the other bedroom. My wife, too, has been happy with them. Be nice to have a third one, just in case... but way nicer if it were only $5 on our Amazon page.

I have several versions.

4K stick with the TV controls (TV power, volume) is my favorite...plan on replacing the older ones.

Older models are slower.

I'm thinking it would be nice to have one of these (without the TV controls) for my projector. Right now I just have an HDMI splitter going to the TV and the projector so I can switch, but when I take it down to use elsewhere that also means disconnecting the ATV, but if I had a Fire stick I could just keep that with the projector. It seems to have all the same streaming services as my ATV does.

I spent a few bucks more for a Roku Streaming Stick in August over a Fire Stick because.... because. Would rather not be beholden to one of the major providers?
