Just about every Intel Mac should read Blu-ray discs with a Blu-ray compatible optical drive. The issue used to be that Apple purposely did not license Blu-ray authoring (because it was jointly owned by Sony), and did not include drivers to read Blu-ray discs until OS 10.5.x. You will need 3rd party software like Roxio Toast to be able to burn true Blu-ray format discs.

I think the OP is asking about a 4K (or UHD) drive. That's different than a regular Blu-Ray. As far as I know, the answer is no. But I haven't really looked for one.

Oh, and if you want to use Toast to burn Blu-Ray movies, I wouldn't bother. I tried. I have a lot of movies that are HD that I tried to burn as Blu-Ray discs using Toast. The quality was horrible... virtually unwatchable. I scoured forums trying to figure it out and saw a lot of people with the same problem. Never did figure it out.

A quick Google search indicates that there is Mac software for 4k Blu-ray playback. I would assume the 4k drives themselves would be Mac compatible for reading discs, although there really isn't any purpose other than ripping discs or playing movies?

OWC

Same price at OWC. OWC has a slightly cheaper one that only does 14X.

That drive will neither read nor write UHD (4K) discs, as asked by the original poster.

Yeah, I misunderstood the OP.

Might need to turn on the OWC Larry signal.

From minimum hardware/software requirements for Pioneer BDR-XD07UHD:
- 2017 MacBook Pro
- 2018 Mac mini
- Mac OS 10.11.x

Cyberlink PowerDVD is listed as the "bundled" software as a Windows download. Cyberlink does not seem to have a current version for Mac. Roxio Toast Pro 19 (requires 10.14.x) for Mac does not list support for UHD or 4-layer BD, so it does not seem to support 4K.
