The numbers I had all make me go online. I can't log in because I always end up at that @#$%& captcha thing. When I successfully complete that, I have to re-enter my name and password. Then it goes back to captcha.

Haven't used these numbers for a few years, but the ebay one worked a charm.

See if that works. It's a link to have eBay call you (you enter your phone number).

If not, try this one [www.ebay.com] and scroll down to the "Have us call you" link.

And if that doesn't work, start at the beginning: [www.ebay.com] and click through the help articles, until you see the "Have us call you" at the bottom of the page.

To do any of those things, you have to be logged in. I can't log in. I've tried 3 browsers. Clicking through the help feature takes me in circles. @#$%& Ebay.

I don't ever remember being challenged by a captcha when logging into ebay. I just logged out, tried the second link that Gareth posted, I clicked on 'Have us call you' then it invited me to log in - I did (no captcha), then it asked me what phone number to call.

edit - what is it that you need from ebay? Everything except very special cases can be handled without a human - maybe we can help settle the issue without a need to call.

Ah yes, even though I was logged out, it was still remembering my phone number.

But I downloaded Firefox, so I'd have a brand new browser and did the same thing and although it looks like a loop, taking you back to the login screen, when you click "Continue" at the bottom again, it takes you to a different call me page (for guests - says so in the URL): [www.ebay.com]

Or maybe try logging in via the app on iOS or Android?

I just finished dealing with two sites over login problems.

Neither of them want you to call.

I tried the chat and it allows one to pick 'talk at somebody' then asks 'what about' from a menu which is a trick because clicking anything from it takes one back the the chat bot.

The other site had no chatbot, but an internal email page.

I got an automated acknowledgement but otherwise don't expect to hear from them before Monday.

At least with AMZ I can easily talk at a human, and even though it's all outsourced to lots of different places, any ES/T/F/L reps speak excellent English and are friendly, so the transactions always go well.

After trying to navigate ebay, I'd never consider trying to find a phone number for them, at least not on their site.

Hal did you know they're now charging fees on the state sales tax they're collecting? How is that even legal?

• I click "log in"
• A captcha comes up with a sliding puzzle piece
• I do it and it says "success" or something similar
• Either me log in page comes up or I click "log in" - I forget
• I enter my user name and then my password
• The captcha screen comes up again, ad infinitum

It's the same on Safari, Chrome, and a generic browser.

The 2 and 3 link take me to a "Let us call you." I totally didn't see that this afternoon. The first link takes me to the captcha page. I'll try the call back tomorrow. Thanks.
