Coca-Cola to retire Tab, its first diet soda, as it trims its portfolio

Coke first introduced Tab to consumers in 1963, aiming the zero-calorie drink at
women. In the 1970s and 1980s, as Americans tried fad diets, the diet soda grew
more popular but faded once Diet Coke was introduced in 1982. The company said
that Tab has maintained a “small but loyal” number of fans in recent decades.
More than half a century after Tab’s launch, Coke is betting on Diet Coke and Coke
Zero Sugar to fulfill consumers’ cravings for sugar-free, low calorie soda.

Wife was a huge Tab fan. Had to learn to like it, but eventually it was her go to drink. Don't think I've seen one in the stores for a long time so she moved on to other too-much-sugar-for-my-taste drinks.

Mama made me drink it for a few years when it was intro'ed. Pretty much bailed on diet soda after bailing on living at home (after HS) over half a century ago. Still know several Tab loyalists, that are gonna be saddened. Only good thing about Tab was the special shape of its returnable bottles.

I remember my aunt was addicted to it in the 70's. Can't remember the last time I saw a can of Tab though.

Way back when, it was sold in bottles from vending machines, and it was the most soda one could get for the money.

And that mattered more than taste.

Years later, I new somebody who, as a fully grown adult drank it much for the same reason I had.

I could barely believe I imbibed in my younger years, and wouldn't consider drinking one again.

It wasn't appealing at all.

I don't think I've seen it anywhere for decades.

I thought the Tab bottles with the pronounced ridge/ledge at the top of the knurled glass "booster" section looked like rocket ships.
It was weird that there were like a zillion different variations on the bottles back then...
probably depended on who/where the bottle was made for the bottling plant.

I'm pretty sure I've had at least a couple bottles/cans when I was a kid but I don't have a clue what it tastes like.
