I üst used SilentKnight, and it found a bunch of updates that I needed, even though I regularly perform maintenance. Here's the link:

Just set System preferences to automatic updates to avoid that problem.

You can do that, but be careful not to allow ALL updates, unless you are up for nasty OS surprises: just allow security updates. However, Silent Knight is much better than using the option in System prefs to install security updates. I highly recommend it.

Model,

I'll echo what Ka Jowct said and actually go a step further. The advice to allow automatic updates is potentially disastrous. You have to be very careful when using automatic updates. I tell people _not_ to allow automatic updates and always install them manually. And install them after backing up.

I've experienced issues due to update. Even security updates. I know others who've experienced problems with updates, too. These days, I wouldn't recommend anyone use the automatic update system.

Backup. Install update. If all is good, continue on.

This is some of what it shows:

macOS Version 10.12.6 (Build 16G2136)
Latest updates installed:
XProtect 2017-06-26 10:23:38 +0000 : 1.0
Mac model Macmini6,2
EFI version found 280.0.0.0.0; expected 286.0.0.0.0
EFI firmware updates no longer supported.
X XProtect 2104 should be 2133
X Gatekeeper 94 should be 181
X MRT 1.18 should be 1.68
No TCC in this version of macOS
KEXT 12.5.0 should be 12.5.0
Software Update Tool

Then there's an Install all updates button.

I assume my out of date stuff is because I'm behind on OSs.

What does the button do, actually?

I'm not going to be updating any time soon.

Agree with Robert M. I've never allowed automatic updates on any device
I've owned, even my "smart TVs".
Most recent example, my iPad & iPhone skipped that clusterf#@k of iOS 14.0.
