Koehler has come out with one, Stardard another. I just wonder if the Jaccuzi part goes bad often. Anyone have a Walk In?

You'll reliably freeze your butt off waiting for it to fill and then again when it empties.

I follow this rule... anything that is advertised with tons of SPAM and marketed as 'so easy' to the elderly is going to be unreliable and a disaster.

Wheelchair accessible showers with fold down seats and lots of hand rails are the best thing ever.

That said, I'm now looking to add a handrail to our large jacuzzi tub to help my wife out. I have to figure that one out.

My brother installed one in his guest bathroom, thinking it would be easier for his wife. It wasn't. She never uses it. I use it when I visit, and I would not recommend it. It feels cramped and awkward. There are better ways to prep showers for elderly folks.

The Jacuzzi part is an enormous and frivolous waste of water, IMHO.

Yes. This is what they had in my dad's assisted-living apartment. It was way, way better than that horrible thing my brother got.

Yeah - part of it depends on what the purpose of the shower/tub install is.

For most older folks, a seated shower with handrails is much safer, easier, and simpler for everyday bathing. It's also much much easier to navigate if you require assistance from a family member or personal assistant.

If you plan to use the tub for buoyancy/soaking, which can be useful for folks with joint, spine, or dermatological issues, it's important to maximize stability, because most injuries happen when getting in/out of the tub, particularly from hitting one's head on a hard surface. In this case, a custom tub can be worthwhile, but depending on your circumstances it may or may not make sense to replace a bathroom fixture this way.

What if you had a heart attack or stroke while it was filling or emptying? You would have to wait until it emptied or flood the bathroom. I wouldn't have one even if it were free.

It is usually simple to put in a large enough drain so that it empties in a reasonable time. A shower curtain with magnetic strips that seal around the side and tub rail will greatly reduce air circulation so that it can be very comfortable during filling and draining.

So sam asks asks a question and a bunch of response not only fail to address it but only reflect what somebody doesn't like about the subject.

Said responses also fail to consider the OP's application or preferences, and are offered with or without any direct experience or knowledge.

A few were just plain stupid.

In keeping with that modus, I'll only say I've used a few different jacuzzis and they're very relaxing to me.

If I were going to get a custom tub, it would have one.

Offering another unsolicited perspective, my biggest and really only question about a walk-in tub is concerns water-tight integrity.

Does the tub's internal water pressure help keep the door sealed?

A leak could be a disaster.
