Ebay customer reports successful migration from 10.7 to 10.13 - I'm a little stunned

I sold a 2011 mac mini on ebay and the customer asked for advice on migrating from an older mini running 10.7. I told him that I've never heard of anyone jumping more than 3 versions without at least a little trouble - I warned about software conflicts and old driver issues, but he wanted to try it anyway.

A few days later he reports that all went well and everyone is happy. I'm a little stunned. It wasn't a work machine - just a granny using it on sundays kinda thing, but still - I'm impressed that it worked. So now I can't say that I've never heard of anyone doing a LONGSHOT migration successfully.

He may have done a nuke and pave - that's what I would have done.

It is what it is.

"A few days later," you say? Might take a little longer for wonkiness to manifest....

Those who don't have trouble probably don't talk loudly about it on the internet

for folks whose computing lives revolve around using stock apps in stock configurations, I'd guess that making a big jump like this probably works more than 90% of the time.

It's us weirdos with 3rd party apps, peripherals, etc, that are more likely to run into issues.

Just my guess.
