I'm using OSX 10.13 with the latest iPhoto which I enjoy because of the Events feature. I have looked at Photos and the only thing that tempts me is the facial recognition. Is it possible for me to continue using iPhoto but occasionally use Photos for searching faces?

Only if you're willing to keep duplicate libraries....sadly.

Bummer. Maybe I could use Google Photos to get the facial recognition feature.

Ok, I installed the google uploader and it seems to work well. I'm able to access my iPhoto's from any IOS device or from a web interface and I have facial recognition.

I looked briefly at Amazon photos which apparently also has facial recognition but I couldn't find an advantage to it so I stuck with Google for now. Dropbox has a photo backup feature but no facial recognition so it's a no go.

You will eventually have to drop iPhoto in favor of Photos if you continue to update your OS. iPhoto won't work in later OSes.

My latest OS upgrade forced me into Photos. I can't believe how much more effort it takes to do what I did in iPhoto?

I do hockey photography. It is about a 20:1 ratio of bad shots to good. Before I post the pics up I always do a little basic correction, cropping and alignment. It literally takes 3x as long to do this in iPhotos because of the poor interface.

I wish Apple would put a little more effort into Photos and Contacts. They could both be so much better and bring so much value to Apple users.

Its almost like the software engineers don't actually use the software they are engineering???

I am still using iPhoto in Mojave. I tried a few revs back to migrate to Photos and it didn't work so I gave up with Photos.
