I can only horrifically imagine the porta trailer bathrooms at Oktoberfest on day 15.

This seems like a solution that should be more widespread.

For the time being, places like Jerry's World (aka AT&T Stadium) in Arlington, Texas, are using dynamic signage on bathrooms that allows them to shift the gender assignment based on the makeup of the crowd. For a Saturday night Taylor Swift concert, for example, AT&T Stadium staff can flip dozens of men's rooms to accommodate the singer's female-heavy crowd and then flip them back for a Cowboys game the next day.

Comedian Billy Connolly described the toilets at the shipyard where he used to work as a bar that you sat on while dangling your bare bum over a trough with running water in it. Up the flow rate in existing urinal troughs and add a fold-down bar to accommodate sitters as well as standers and Presto!- Existing toilets can now be used by those with outdoor OR indoor plumbing as needed.

Sweet, I found the clip! Billy Connolly - Shipyards Toilet Tale [www.youtube.com]

Europe takes the simple route for standers, freeing up traditional porta-lets for sitters -

puritanical Americans would soil themselves first.

Two words: Urinal trough.

Synonymous with "Wrigley Field."

You get a little bit of privacy if you can locate a corner and angle yourself a few degrees outside of it. Unless it's really crowded and the guy to that side is even closer to you. Obviously, this is an inexact science.

In my experience trying to have any sort of privacy in a trough situation is at best futile and at worst a great way to wind up dribbling all down your leg. Getting past the phobia of "Oh my God, everyone is LOOKING at my bits!" when in reality, unless you happen to have been blessed with "practical joke/circus sideshow"-sized junk, no-one is paying the slightest bit of attention to your bits is the key.

The fun thing with those stand up portable urinals is that later in the evening, you get to see how the girls use them! And use them they do!
