I survived COVID
Posted by: chopper
Date: October 26, 2020 03:07PM
All is well. My wife and son are 99% fine.

My appetite is gone, as is my sense of taste and smell.

Not a huge deal.

Thanks for all kind thoughts expressed here.

Chopper,
I'm happy that you and your family are on the road to recovery. Keep up your strength, avoid re-exposure. I don't know what the recovery period is for the anosmia, but I can tell you that losing your sense of smell and taste (they are pretty much the same sense) is really annoying.

This.

Sense of taste and smell gone? How about an experiment...try a ghost pepper and report back.

Congrats on the recovery.

Not to turn this into potty humor but being able to tolerate fire in your mouth doesn't mean the rest of your body likes it. Bluntly, it burns on both ends.

I am glad you are back. Best wishes for everybody your family that got infected. Stay aware, a few percent of people with loss of taste have significant secondary issues in the following weeks.

Stepdaughter who got it in March said that it was about 3 weeks after other symptoms went away before smell and taste returned.

BTW: she was an active physically fit 40 something when this hit. Tomorrow she going to a specialist to see if the continuing breathing problems are due to permanent damage to her lungs.

Hope your recovery is more complete than hers!
(I am not trying to demean your success in any way, but do be aware that there can be lingering effects.)
