Wild to see these storms creep across the gulf, then hit land and abruptly gallop away with a "Yeee-HAW!

Hurricane season is until November 30. Seems we're at the end of the greek alphabet. where does the naming go from here?

There are 18 letters left in the Greek alphabet. Zeta is the 6th letter, not the final letter.

I've taken some video of what's happening outside, it's serious.

Frequent intermittent power outages so far. Luckily earlier today, I set up both my Mac Pro and wireless on UPS's, so I haven't lost any work or internet (so far!).

These will be some of the fastest straight-line winds in Birmingham since I moved here. Supposed to go through quickly, though.

I'm on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain, and we haven't lost power- yet. With all the pine trees around, I don't think it will stay that way. Lots of rain though.

Yikes. Well I now have two broken windows in my bedroom -- they both basically blew out from the wind, I was very lucky that the broken glass didn't get my eyes, but they did get one of my hands (not severe though) ... the glass basically landed right on top of my Mac Pro and MBP's keyboard (where I normally sit at my desk) ... damaged an old Wacom tablet and also my Mac Pro's monitor. (The latter really sucks because it's a nice monitor, one of the older Ultrasharp varieties.) Could have been MUCH worse.

Blue tarps, furring strips, and duct tape to the rescue !

Didn't have any tarp material, at least not easily accessible, so I ended up using cardboard and duct tape as a temporary measure. I'll do a better patch tomorrow, but I think the reason these particular windows may have blown out was because they weren't the regular tempered type of glass used for windows, I think just regular pane glass, and furthermore, I'm not sure there was any wood frame holding them in place, just some sort of adhesive on the inside edges. I'm tempted to do the repair myself and make sure to use better quality glass and do something more substantial than just adhesive!

Yikes, NOLA was a direct hit!

nasty tornadoes and serious wind/rain damage.

Hoping for the best for everyone!

No shame in learning, or in my case remembering. It helped me remember that Romans did not think they needed the "z" and "y", so added them later, at the end of the alphabet.

In Latin, Y was named I graeca ("Greek I"), since the classical Greek sound /y/, similar to modern German ü or French u, was not a native sound for Latin speakers, and the letter was initially only used to spell foreign words.

Pretty big winds here at 5am when we got up but not bad enough to not let the cat out. Of course he decided I was wrong and came right back in!

No power here just north of Atlanta. We think it went out maybe 4:30 or 5:30am
Fierce winds from about 3am on, but it has calmed down now.
I hope we get power back soon.
