Replaced battery on 15" 2015 MacBook Pro--uggh!

The problems weren't with the string method, which worked pretty well--I just used pliers to pull on the two ends of the strings to cut through the glue.

No, the hard parts were:

(1) most of the videos are for the solvent method, so they weren't very helpful.
(2) none of the string method videos made it clear that you have to remove the trackpad/keyboard cable FIRST!!!
(3) the battery replaced, from our noble host, had screw holes which didn't line up with the original! Took a bunch of very careful forcing, and clipping of plastic trim from the battery to get the screws in.

When I was done, the MBE didn't see the keyboard/trackpad. I took the back off, and reseated the cable, and no it seems to be working.

So far, so good (nearly 3 hours later!)

Congrats! If you don’t have to take it apart after the first attempt, you are the exception.
