I wish I had a river...

Geeeze, River is my very favorite Joni Mitchell song.

Ever.

Not exactly a cheery song, it surprised me when it seemed to become something of a Christmas standard, but I always enjoy hearing it.

I played the heck out of it more than any other song on the album.

Or any Joni album for that matter.

I just watched an episode of Away, where it played out the end of the show, and it was a really good choice.

Very sorry the show was cancelled, it's been really good so far.

Joni Mitchell

Years ago, Robert Downey Jr. made a couple of appearances on Ally McBeal, and he did a cover of the song.

It was amazing.

I didn't think I'd ever like any version except Mitchell's, covers often being reimagining of the original, but his was incredible.

It one of the very first songs I put on my 5G iPod.

And then Mitchell's, LOL.

They both got a lot of play, then and now.

I loved the RDJ version, but I was a bigger fan of Alley McBeal than I was of Joni Mitchell. The song was also featured in an episode of The Politician, a show we enjoyed very much.

Also was a fan of Ally McBeal which was the source for naming our first daughter. Always liked RDJ but somehow don't remember him singing this. I had no idea he could sing that good.

Yep. I found out when he sang "Driven To Tears" at Sting's 60th birthday- [www.youtube.com]

I was a fan of Ally, but didn't know much about Downey other than his troubles with drugs and apparent fall from Grace, as a... Teen star? Not quite right, I'm sure.

But I was really happy to see him on Ally as I saw it as something of a come-back path for a troubled but good soul, another chance.

And then there was that episode where he played and sang.

WOW.

It was a short stay on the show and I hoped he would fare well.

A couple of years ago, my girlfriend showed me a story about Downey, and his good soul.

It was shorter than this version, but it went to what I believe is the true character of Downey.

It too, was amazing.
