Geeeze,
River is my very favorite Joni Mitchell song.
Ever.
Not exactly a cheery song, it surprised me when it seemed to become something of a Christmas standard, but I always enjoy hearing it.
I played the heck out of it more than any other song on the album.
Or any Joni album for that matter.
I just watched an episode of
Away, where it played out the end of the show, and it was a really good choice.
Very sorry the show was cancelled, it's been really good so far.

Years ago, Robert Downey Jr. made a couple of appearances on
Ally McBeal, and he did a cover of the song.
It was amazing.
I didn't think I'd ever like any version except Mitchell's, covers often being reimagining of the original, but his was incredible.
It one of the very first songs I put on my 5G iPod.
And then Mitchell's, LOL.
They both got a lot of play, then and now.

I am that Masked Man.
All you can do, is all you can do.
There’s trouble — it's time to play the sound of my people.
Your boos mean nothing to me, I've seen what you cheer for.
Insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s adolescence.
I've been to the edge of the map, and there be monsters.
We are a government of laws, not men.
Everybody counts or nobody counts.
When a good man is hurt,
all who would be called good
must suffer with him.
You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead.
There is no safety for honest men except
by believing all possible evil of evil men.

An armed society is a polite society.
And hope is a lousy defense.
You make me pull, I'll put you down.
I *love* SIGs. It's Glocks I hate.
