F/U Sick son —- getting better

After tests that were negative on Thursday, he reported yesterday afternoon that he was having trouble breathing.

So I rushed over. Pulse Ox was okay, but his tonsils were badly swollen. Worst I’ve ever seen. So we began to look forward urgent care places. First one closed. Second one not taking walk ins and no open appointments. And the third one refused to see him because he had recently had a COVID test (confusing). He was told to go to the ER.

Strep test, IV fluids for dehydration. And positive for strep, so IV antibiotics and steroids. And after 7 hours, I fed him and got him in bed, got his meds, walked his big goofy smoochy chow/boxer mutt girl. And went home.

He’s already feeling better. Geesh.

Great news but be wary. Lots of people crash back after seeming to recover.

Thanks for the follow up. I logged on this morning to ask you for an update. Nice to see I didn't have to.

I hope your Son gets through this without further complications. As said above, you're a good Dad.

Strep will put me down in a hurry. It is awful.
Glad you got him on the antibiotics. They usually take care of it.
So happy it isn’t Covid

Is that pretty typical for medical care where you live? I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes to get into an ER around here and definitely never turned away. Can they even do that legally?

Yeah, aren't you in Cleveland? I figured lots of good care around there.

But you did what a good dad would do. My father came over once I called him when I was projectile vomiting and I was a fair bit older than your son when it happened!.

Yay! Happy to hear your son is doing better! I have no experience with tonsils one way or another, all I know is that Big Brother Zealand had his out at one point but I think I still have mine. Keeping your experience in mind for the Little Zealands here.

And glad he's on the mend!

It appears to have been the third urgent care that turned him away, not the ER.

I'm glad that you were able to get him treated, and that he is responding well to the antibiotics.

Good Dad award for you!

I'm glad your son is getting better, but geezus. If you weren't there for him, what would he have done? This needs to be a learning experience for him in being an adult.

What are you thinking the son should have done differently? It seems to be a peculiarly American conceit that there is something childish about relying on one's family.
