That was an enjoyable presentation.

I'm curious as to whether the mini will have replaceable RAM similar to the 2018, and I presume, 2020 mini.

It's odd that I see zero references to the latest mini, just about anywhere.

That was my first question, too. Can I upgrade the memory?

Nope, can't update the memory per apple site.

Yup, just found that:

"Memory

8GB unified memory

Configurable to: 16GB"

Intel Mac Mini i5 and i7 still available. This M1 Mini seems to replace the i3 Mini. And they're color-coded by processor type: Space Gray for Intel, Silver for M1.

Anything with the word Pro in it needs more than two USB ports, especially when one is for charging.

I could agree with that... except for the new 20 hour battery life claims might negate it. Even if it only went for 10 hours straight... thats a full day.

They are interesting new offereings... but only the first steps.

real world performance -- which we will really see in the next few days -- will be the definer.

Loved the Gumdrop Bondi style iMac in the lab and the end of the video with the "I'm a PC" guy.

Y'know RAMd®d, you don't have to buy every new Apple product that comes out. Just sayin' smiling smiley

Very exciting progress here. Impressive performance metrics aside it seems that all of these models are limited to 16GB RAM which I feel has become limiting for my work so I'll probably be asking for the top end 5K iMac (w/OWC RAM upgrade of course).

Same here.

Limited to 16G max, I'd like to see it and 2020 (or 2018) mini with 64G in a showdown.

Either Apple things M1 16G is good enough, or a higher limit will be available next go-round.

Also, the mini looks like it as two less ports than my 2018, which is disappointing.

Just sayin'

LOL!

My iMac is a 2015, as is my MB, and my mini a 2018.

I'll probably hang onto the mini for awhile, but I'd like my 'Book and iMac to be T3 capable.

I have lowered the MAVIC Air 2's priority and will probably get a Mini 2.

So I am cutting back.

That’s unfortunate — I want an M1 mini in Space Gray.

If I understood the presentation correctly, the new unified architecture reduces the amount of RAM required to run software, which enables full performance using less installed RAM.

As others have mentioned, the proof will be in the benchmarks that are sure to be available soon. I predict BareFeats.com will soon see a HUGE uptick in traffic to its site.

Yes, BF is a great resource. I will not discount M1 until I see real world benchmarks, especially with the Adobe pro apps like Premiere and After Effects.

I believe you did.

My takeaway was the same — a shorter walk to take all the data where it needs to be means more done 'locally' without using as much RAM.

There is no doubt, in my mind anyway, that this mini will significantly outperform my 2018 mini, and the 2020 mini as well.

I'd like to play 4K/60fps video 'like buttah' (read: smooth as butter).

I haven't seen any 5K video, which I'd like to see on my 5K iMac.

Would 4K video upscaled to 5K on the iMac look as good as native 5K video?

I don't know.
