I bought a couple of Monoprice Qi-compatible chargers back in March when there was a 2 for $7 deal. I was surprised that they even worked for that price. But, I use mine with an Otterbox Defender case and my wife uses hers with a Spigen clear case. They work fine. They are plugged in all the time. I've left the phone on it for extended periods of time without a problem. FWIW, we have SE 2020 phones.

But charging pad and phone get roasty toasty.
I would think a thinner, simpler case would be more efficient.
We have an Anker charging pad; doesn’t do scrambled eggs, but feels like it could cook an egg if you rotated it periodically... though you’d need something to keep the charging going.
We leave it plugged in 24/7.
Don’t leave phone on it for extended periods of time, well..., unless we forget.
No apparent harm.

As long as it's thin enough and the charger is studly enough, as charging capacity drops quickly as the distance between device and charger increase, and wireless charging isn't all that efficient to start with.

Yes, but it will probably draw a small amount of current while plugged in without a device on it.

Yes, but it may to more harm than good over time because heat is the enemy of a battery.

No, but feels like it could cook an egg which is why I wouldn't leave a device on the pad for an extended time.

I'm sure some people do and don't notice any degradation in battery capacity or life.

I don't know that there isn't any, so I won't.


If you don't plan to keep a device more than a year or two, none of the above probably matters.

I tend to be more conservative, so YmAMV.

I don't like it when my phone gets hot.

I really think charging pads are more for short term convenience than long term use.

You can also look into a dock that charges “normally”.... most of the convenience with much less heat.

The pad gets hot.

Its about the watts -- 7.5 via wireless, 18+ via cable (if you have the right wall wart)

Its a "convenience" thing... depends on how you use your phone? Oldest uses her phone all day until bed, then drops it on the charger... when she gets up... 100%. But it might have take 4+ hours to get there depending on how low it was to start with....
