Jerky Motions from Webcams

My brother and I are Mac owners but our 10.4.x running Mac don't have iSight because we cannot afford it yet sad smiley So we have to use Windows XP machines to video chat via Yahoo Messenger. The webcams we use are the cheapy ones ... $40 for a set of two. The picture quality is pretty good but it is rather jerky. Is it Yahoo or the webcam? Each of us has broadband connections.

Is this a consistently low framerate or occasional slowdown? There may be settings to allow for 'realtime' video or some specific number of frames per second.

mikebw,
It's low framerate. There aren't much options to choose from under Yahoo Messenger sad smiley I am assuming that a better quality webcam will not have this issue. Does an iSight webcam have this problem?

Since my iSight won't work with Windows, I can't say.

My wife's MacBook has an iSight builtin (USB2), and works fine via a Boot Camp Windows partition for Messenger, Skype, AIM.

I would guess your problem is USB 1.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

If you have iChat on your Macs, there are programs that may let you use your USB cams with iChat.

Check Google.
