Basic Question: What’s the top ten on your (public) Bucket List?

Let’s see...

No particular order.
  • England, Italy, France, Greece, Spain European wander.
  • Newport Jazz Festival VIP ticket version.
  • SXSW
  • Finally take a trip to New York. See two old friends and a Broadway play.
  • Learn to swim.
  • Host a really kick a** Thanksgiving dinner. Do most, if not all of the cooking.
  • Find a way to make sure any pets I leave behind have guaranteed good homes.
  • Do an in depth study of three or four major religions.
  • Become conversationally fluent in two more languages. (Making good progress with Spanish.)
  • Spend a TBD period of time ( A month? Three months?) sitting on my butt worrying about absolutely nothing. A thoroughly ‘murican! version of a hermitage. Eat healthy? Eat junk? I’ll let you know when I get to the fridge. That new biography or that new graphic novel? We’ll see which one I find first. Exercise you say? Welll, walk four miles to Wendy’s and Uber back. Done. big grin smiley

  • Visit parts of the world I haven't visited yet, including the Himalayas, Africa and New Zealand
  • Write a book
  • Embark on an epic bicycle tour
  • Go back to my academic roots and conduct some more original geologic research on BIG topics
  • Finish restoring my vintage cars
  • Get the time to actually get good on the guitar
  • Make sure that my family is completely financially and emotionally secure upon my demise
  • Sail some more tropical island chains
  • Leave behind a legacy that involves caring and goodwill to others
  • Have a bevy of beautiful women amazed at what an incredible specimen I am

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

At this point, it’s just getting to the end of this COVID pandemic, then I’ll reestablish a bucket list.

I have a few things on my bucket list:

• 300 day ski season, which will require some living in the Southern Hemisphere
• Spend at least a year on an island...with a Hawaiian one being the most likely
• Spend at least a year in a foreign country
• Live long enough to enjoy grandkids
• Go skiing with grandkids
• Continue to manage Crohn's without resorting to immunosuppressive routes
• Be internal combustion engine free in the next 3-5 years

Off the top of my head, because most everything seems so far off except the first one:
Finish hiking the north south trail (4 of 6 sections complete) - not a huge stretch goal but it’s neat. Then start to work on the blue trails that cross CT and Midstate in MA
Paddle in Iceland
Tour Great Britain (might as well paddle there too)
Make some great ravioli from scratch
Rappel down a waterfall
Set up solar battery backup for the house so we can avoid most uses of the generator
Take the horses somewhere and go on a long trail ride
Become a lead climber
Paddle the whole length of rivers like the Connecticut

1st was invent the wheel, but I see that has already been done.
Travel - Scandinavia, NZ, Australia, Portugal, more of Germany and Italy, Cinque Terre and do some paddling & cycling in each.
Learn to ride a bike (I'll have to hide that from my spouse).
Learn to code.
Re-learn electronics.
Read a book.
Electrify a fave oldie, Traction Avant, Auburn/Cord/Graham or Studebaker.
Own and afford a 246 Dino.
Hike some great trail of the American wilderness (preferable without poisonous critters).
Drive the Cabot train in better weather than the last time.
Buy a 33609 and a Pendulum ES8.
Drive coast to coast.
Learn to count to ten.

Sell the absurdly high number of vintage Mac's I've liberated from the recycling process.
Well, all except for ten or eleven, that is.

You should come work here. Seems like we're trying to reinvent the wheel every day.
