I would call the pharmacies but they are very busy and I'd rather bug you guys than them. Pharmacy A will not be accepting my Medicare insurance company's prescriptions, so I would like them to send the prescriptions on file to Pharmacy B by 1/1/21. I don't have an appointment with my doctor until January and may switch doctors before then.

Depends where you live. In California when I changed pharmacy, I let the MD know and the new one simply called the Doctors office for FAX renewals.

That's probably what I would do, but I'm vey likely to drop my current PCP. I will be seeing my hematologist/oncologist a lot over the next two months but I don't know if he would represcribe several prescriptions unrelated to what he does. I'll ask either A or B tomorrow or Monday.

A lot of the old rules changed during the opioid crisis. As busy as they are, you’re going to have to talk to them directly to see what they can and cannot do these days.

Call Pharmacy B and ask them to do it ?

This. Otherwise, send a message to your Dr. and have them send new scripts to the new pharmacy.

Also a oncologist isn't a replacement for your PCP. You need them both.

My insurance covers a mail order pharmacy that I find very convenient. I send a request for the script via a patient portal and doctor/staff fax it in.

I think Pharmacy A can "forward" prescriptions to Pharmacy B but can't swear to it.

When I did this, I took the label printout that came with the prescriptions' last refills to the new pharmacy and asked them to transfer the prescriptions from the old pharmacy. They did it with no problem, and the information about how many refills were left on each prescription carried over as well. Seems like you should make sure you have enough meds on hand, and then make the transfer on January first so that there is no insurance confusion. Also make sure your old pharmacy isn't doing "automatic refills" so that you have control over when the next refills get ordered.

I did it in person. If you don't want to go into the pharmacy, then it's worth calling them to see how you can convey the information.
