I made a trip to Costco for a $50 difference that I posted about a few threads down. For $10 I probably wouldn't make a special trip but I might give it a go if I was in the neighborhood anyway.

Mine have been running for at least 4-5 hours right now, some TV, some music... back panel is barely warm. Like nothing. Not hot by any stretch. Sub is on a carpeted floor under my desk.

If Im doing the math right, assuming he meant 16-17 Wh -- rounded up to 20

20 (watts) x 24 Hours Used Per Day = Watt-hours (Wh) per Day = 480
480 (Wh) / 1000 (Wh/kWh) = Device Usage in kWh = .048
Daily Usage .48 (kWh) x 30 (Days) = Approximate Monthly Usage (kWh/Month) = 14.4

think we pay 13¢ per kWh x 14.4 = $1.87 a month

They sound great.. would even consider a pair for a TV.

Sorry, like the guy says in the video, this isn't 2003, it's 2020. It needs a power switch or an auto-standby instead of perpetually drawing 16-17 watts.

My set that I bought years ago, around when they were first released has an on/off switch on the back of the Sub. Can't see the back of the Sub in any of the pictures!

Originally, it had a power switch. I just replaced mine, as the repair center jacked up their rates and made fixing mine uneconomical.

I need a set of good computer speakers. I had one years ago... forget the brand, but it was 2.1 and sounded really good. Then it died after a couple of years. Ended up giving them to a really handy guy who had an identical set that his daughter had, same problem. I think he managed to get a set working.

I'm using a pair of the old, beige AppleDesign Powered Speakers (with the rainbow Apple logo!). Got them at a surplus auction about 15 years ago... they were probably 15 years old then. They actually sound half decent. I have a pair of studio monitors (3 or 4" speaker) that are more powerful, but not enough bass.

Ah, just read the original thread, and the set I had years ago were Monsoons. Subwoofer died.

+1, If I needed a pair, I'd get them. I grabbed a pair of Presonus Erins (?) on sale to use with my desktop, don't have any issues with them either.

You can always add an in-line switch or just a power strip. I'm not in the market but I wouldn't let the lack of a switch sway my decision.

I finally saw this at Costco last week. The subwoofer is much smaller than the one that came with the set I purchased twenty years ago.

This makes me wish for the days of CompUSA when you could walk in and listen to a dozen different speaker systems with buttons to switch between them.
