Since I'm not a geek, what would I have to do to install this in my iMac? Does it replace something inside? If not, is there a port in "clicks" into? Inquiring minds want to know...

NVMe ports are built into the mobo. Or you could have a PCI card with an NVMe port. My Hackintosh has them. Not sure if newer iMacs have them.

If you have Thunderbolt 3, then you could put one in an external enclosure and use it.

Not sure if TB2 is fast enough to make it worthwhile. I'm sure someone else will chime in, though.

You'd have to open up your iMac, not an easy process. Then, you'd have to use an adapter to fit the SSD to the proprietary Apple connector--maybe $10 or so.

How techy are you? Comfortable taking an iMac apart?

yes, no, maybe. We need to know the model of your iMac... but on the surface... no.

A better question is -- what would you hope to gain from adding this to your iMac? Is it running slow? What ram? what kind drive? Lets diagnose the issue before we throw $80 at it. Its not like they are all the sudden half off -- $95 is average -- only $10 more

What jdc sez.
Using in an iMac if way different (& harder) than in a cMP 5,1.
Also, if you're going external via USB spend a little extra and buy an enclosure
that's USB 3.1g2 or higher (future proof) even if your iMac only has 3.0.

stf for NVMe and USB 3.1 [forums.macresource.com]

btw, cases using the Realtek RTL9210 chipset are my personal preference.
