I would suggest not reading the OP’s link unless you have some room on your credit card.

Interesting video, showing you can do a lot with 8GB onboard fast RAM. But those MBPs were not attached to external monitors, and the RAM is shared with any video. Would love to have seen the same tests running an external 4k (or 5k!) monitor.

If you had asked me 2 months ago when I planned on getting rid of my cMP 5,1, I would have muttered something about prying it from my cold, dead hands. Now? I'm anxiously waiting for the next gen chip to be released, and am seriously contemplating going to a Mac mini. My wife's 2010 iMac is starting to show signs of age and she asked me when the new iMacs are coming out. I told her she would probably be fine with one of the new M1 mini's with an external monitor, but I think she wants an iMac. She doesn't do anything major on it... web surfing and email mostly. But if she wants an iMac, that's what she'll get.

The biggest down side is having to move to Big Sur -- all of your old apps wont work.

Really don't wait.

Ummm.... Rosetta 2, anyone?

I'm torn. I REALLY want to get an M1 Mac mini now, but:
1) I'm curious and excited to see what the next ASi offerings will look like.
2) I dropped $2600 on an iMac just three years ago and am not looking to take a big loss if I were to sell it to buy an M1 Mac.
3) Truth be told, I would prefer a Space Gray mini to a Silver one.

Probably never a better time to sell that iMac.

I have to admit, the 5k screens on modern Intel iMacs are pretty sweet... So going to 4k is a definite downgrade.
