Random Late Night Thoughts...

Up late watching Charlie Brown, and went Hardcore History Nerd.

Snoopy got shot down 70 km from Chalons-Sur-Marne and walked to 3 km from Pont-a-Mousson. I nerded it out and mapped this. Chalons-Sur-Marne(changed to Chalon-en-Champagne in 1988) is 137 km from Pont-a-Mousson, so Snoopy walked 63km (39 miles) in one night! What a Hero!

San Antonio, TX (in the old city)

“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

Wow! Who knew the city was so famous. I associate it with being the capital of the region of Champagne. Joan of Arc also passed through, but that was before my time.

I used to live in Châlons-sur-Marne in 1989-90 (Professeur de Jonglerie at le Centre National Des Arts du Cirque). A couple of time the administration would call all the staff together to have “pot,” and we would all have a glass of champagne.

The name had not yet changed to “en Champagne” when I was there.
