How to not get a strange "E" character in this pdf

Can anyone explain why this pdf would have a font problem and how I can get rid of it?

I tried to Google an answert but I don't know what an upside down triangle on top of an "E" is called.

It takes a while to download and you have to wait till it's done for the E thingy to appear.

If you knew how to be more specific, people would be more apt to help you.

It's a font-encoding thing, most likely.
Doesn't show up on Windows.

Are you the creator of the document?

Looks fine to me, too. Macintosh. Acrobat 7. Pitstop.

More information? Or just take SWAG?

circumflex / caret, diacritic mark

Just opened and scanned that quick in Acrobat 6 and 7 on a XP box and
Preview on OS10.2.8 and don't see the error.

I have seen it in e-mail attatchment pdf files, though.
That, and other odd ball characters.

Thanks billb.
So it is a cap E with a caret or hat or uppen.

ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ

It's the pdf of the form for applying for US citizenship (not for myself by the way) and this is what it looks like on my G5 OSX 10.4.8.

So why would I be getting them and how do I get rid of them?

When I first viewed it, it appeared normal and then after a few seconds the strange character appeared. Adobe reader loads some font after the fact.

Does it print with the strange character?

Most likely you have a missing font and it is being "approximated" by your system. Highlight the "E" and go to your fonts menu and see if you can change it. If not, copy/paste the page into a word editor and replace or delete the unruly E

I don't see the character when I opened the PDF with Preview or Adobe Reader 6.01 but do see it with Adobe Reader 7.0.8 and Acrobat Pro 8. Hmmm.

If you just looking for a clean print, try Preview.

I still get them with Preview.

I finally had to use our Intel Mac with Windows XP and this is humiliating because I can not figure out why?

Can't do this as it is a PDF.

Perhaps I have a corrupted font??
