Anyone take Darvoset for pain?

I'm trying it out because the cortizone shots for arthritis can ruin your bones and I'm having to repeat and repeat them.

Merck's site I think said they can become "addictive" but a blog said "no"

I certainly felt better this a.m. after popping one last night before bed. Slept thru the night, too.

Anyone tried them for Arthritis or is this crowd to young for that? winking smiley)))))

Darvocet is an opiate, and it is addictive.
From RXList.:
WARNING:
Propoxyphene (Darvocet) should be used with extreme caution, if at all, in patients who have a history of substance/drug/alcohol abuse, depression with suicidal tendency, or who already take medications that cause drowsiness (e.g., antidepressants, muscle relaxants, pain relievers, sedatives, tranquilizers). Fatalities have occurred in such patients when propoxyphene was misused.

P.S., Used to take Darvocet years ago, have traded way up to kill the pain in my legs, a half dozen surgeries on each leg will do that for a person. Good luck with the pain Sam. I have found that if it takes away the pain without making you euphoric, you are fine. If you pop them and it makes you happy, you are in trouble.

I've taken Darvoset after a couple of surgeries, but it's sure nothing I'd be willing to take at a "maintenance" level for arthritis. Plus, I certainly would lend more credence to what a drug company says than a blog, too! It contains an addictive substance and is not intended for long term use. It also contains Tylenol, and an anti-inflammatory that works differently would be a better choice for OA.

Have you seen a rheumatologist? I have both rheumatoid arthritis and a touch of osteoarthritis. Sometimes cortisone shots are the only way to go, but there are a number of good drugs now that are a much better option than heavy duty pain killers. I take a 1000mg maintenance dose of Naproxen ER every day, which was prescribed for the RA. A friend has OA in her knees and was prescribed the same drug. If you haven't seen a specialist, I'd certainly recommend doing that instead of relying on blogs and a computer forum (even though we are very diverse!)

On advice from a physical therapist and doctor I work with, I have started taking Fish Oil everyday. I am not one who takes and believes in herbs and supplements. But the PT suggested that it might help my joints. I have a history of osteoarthritis.

So I read up on it and found that it might help. There are anti-inflamatory properties in fish oil.I am taking 2000-3000mg everyday and it does help. I am taking less ibuprofen. Started giving it to my BF too and he has noticed less stiffness in his joints.

I get my fish oil from Whole Foods. They are soft gel capsules. They go down easily and have no fishy aftertaste.

thanks Kanesa, I have some caps I'll try it.

Guys, darvocet is a RX so I would not be popping them and yes I have been to 3 specialists. They say They can't do anything just take aspirin which doesn't help. I swim 3x a week do all the things I'm supposed to do...Guess if the fish oil doesn't work I'll just live with it.

Don't worry, the only opiate I have to worry about is computers and electronics.

In this case, yes. Although even as I wrote that I figured somebody would have a remark to make. There's no indication of WHICH blog she was reading. If a drug company says a drug is addictive, that's good enough for me to want to err on the side of caution.

No but I'm taking Soma (Carisoprodol) 350mg and Etodolac
(Lodine) 500mg for my lower back problem. How bad are they?

Lodine is a very effective NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug).

Soma is a muscle relaxer and does have some opiate-like qualities. It does work well, but is also addictive. It should only be used for short periods of time.

Remember samintx you have to take the fish oil everyday for 2-3 weeks to feel the effects.

Has anyone tried glucosamine for arthritis? I don't need it but I read about it on a dog site. Sounds like a lot of humans have good luck with it.

My arthritis doctor says Glucosamine is the only OTC drug that has been show to help the pain. He recommended I try it along with the 750 mg of Relafin that I take moring and evening.

He said the mistake that most people make with glucosamine is they don't take enough of it. All the studies that showed improvement were taking 1500 mg a day, which for the stuff I ordered is 3 Horse Pills a day.

After about 2 weeks, I could tell the difference. Seems like I'm not as stiff in the mornings (no pun intended). I have been taking glocosamine/chondrotin 1500/1200mg/day for about a year now.

I was on Celebrex, twice a day, until I had to have heart by-pass surgery. He then put me on the Relefin, said it wasn't as high a risk as the Celebrex for heart patients.
