“For the purpose of comparison, we’ll use the baseline M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM vs. the Dell XPS 13 with the highest-end chip in the new “Tiger Lake” family and 32GB of RAM.

In single-core tests, the 11th gen. i7 scores 1,544 while the M1 MacBook Air scores 1,713. In multi-core, the gap is even wider with the i7 scoring 5,491 to Apple Silicon’s 7,484.”

Would dive right in the deep end (assuming my company would approve the purchase) if Adobe would get off its ass and upgrade the whole CC suite (I'm a heavy InDesign user). Also have not found any info if Filemaker runs under Big Sur.

My main video editor, Screenflow, is also not ready for M1. It'll be a dance when the maxed out M1 mini arrives in a couple weeks.

Rosetta2 is working well in our experience. See what people say about specific programs.

I read that Photoshop for Apple ARM is supposed to be available (in legit, not-beta form) in 2021. Haven’t heard about the rest of CC, but it sure beats Adobe’s attitude back in the day when they seemed to be irritated that Apple wouldn’t just die, already.

I think that Adobe is finally realizing that there are others that are competing for their space and doing it well. If they don't make the jump, customers may decide to look elsewhere if possible.

I think that Adobe has already ported 80% of the code for the iOS version.

Yes - we are. The new M1 Mac in our household got us over the 32Bit Mojave barrier. We are now directly comparing alternatives. So far, the only reason Photoshop was still in use for us was that we were used to the controls of the CS3 version we've been using forever. Since new versions of Photoshop and CS means we have to learn a new interface, we might as well try something totally different and that does not require us to commit to a subscription fee.

Look at the Affinity products. I know some students who made the jump from Adobe to Affinity and are very happy with the product. Don't know if they accept all the plugins that are out there though. They bought the entire suite on sale for around $100.

And today, their entire line is 30% off:

Im not seeing it.

Besides Affinity... there's no other "suite" option.

Quark is the only other legitimate page layout application.

Photoshop, Illustrator, DW -- no real competition.

No competition in enterprise.

But SOHOs can get along with Affinity Photo or Pixelmator Pro; Affinity Designer; Wordpress/Squarespace and BBEdit for PS/AI/DW.

Affinity Publisher is a pretty nice alternative to ID.

Quark is hot garbage. They're so far behind and their licensing is so screwed up as to make it a non-starter.

Quark screwed the pooch so long ago, I'm honestly surprised to learn they are still around.

Just goes to show how things can and do change. InDesign still around in 10 years? hmm
