M1 mini must be selling like hotcakes

Delivery date quoted for the order I placed last night (8GB/1TB) was Dec 15.

Delivery date being quoted tonight for the same configuration? January 8 - more than three weeks later than the date quoted last night.

Someone's buying a lot of M1 minis.

It is what it is.

Almost like the Amazon Dots - last time I checked said expected shipping time was ‘3-6 months!’

Apple is having manufacturing and shipping problems. And repairs.

Part of it is the normal holiday shipping problem.

But something else is going on. Depot repairs that normally take 3-5 days (which used to take 2 days before COVID) are now slipping to 3 weeks and those expecting orders previously expected to ship in 2 weeks are being notified of additional weeks of delays.

Notifications have been going out for orders due this week and next that devices may not ship until after Xmas.

Even base models of all M1 Macs are not in stock at any local Apple Stores in the Houston area - has been that way for the past week or longer

Occasionally a store here or there will show a base model available for pickup 'today' or 'tomorrow' but more often than not stores are not showing any stock

Same goes for the local Best Buys - a smattering of models here or there going in and out of stock

I've also been checking HomePod minis and the same holds true for those too

The Sat after launch, I purchased one of the last 16/1TB MBAs in the entire Twin Cities area.

Online ordering was 3 week delivery timeline back then.

My son picked up a 16/ 1 TB MBA last week at the Palo Alto Apple store. Locally, the Apple Store app shows no M1 models as available, but they said when they have low inventory, they won't show it in the app.

We happened to go to the store for another reason (with appointment) and asked and got lucky. They also had base MBAs and MBPs in.

All the Houston area stores are only doing online ordering for in store pickup

They’re not taking any walkins for anything so we’re at the mercy of what online inventory shows only unfortunately

There was a headline about how Apple computers have taken a large step up in marketshare in Japan since the M1 release. Too lazy/busy to look it up now.

Nice find.

Usually one would only find the base model of a Mac in store.

Any think else (CTO) had to be ordered.

That's the boat I'm in.

I cancelled one order because of the sale, and the ETA moved from three weeks to that same window.

I'm hoping this is an under promise/over delivery estimate.
