And, Brother didn't include an updated driver for my model, although they picked and chose many others. Tried to get it back to wireless but it may now be too outdated to make it work. Didn't play well with my Century Link wifi.

Sucks.

I suppose I could set up my old iMac down in the studio and use it that way.

Just put in a new cartridge....

Sounds like they don't make a Big Sur driver for it which is differs from bricking it.

Their website points to the 10.15 driver. did you try that?

Brother printers will usually work with generic PCL drivers. Use the "Select Software" option and search for a PCL driver.

They also usually work in HP emulation mode. You can try selecting a basic HP Laserjet driver. See if you have the Laserjet 5M driver in the "Select Software" options. I've had good luck with it.

Finally, try the Brother MFC-6550MC driver from Gutenprint.

Pretty ridiculous that we still need printer drivers in 2020. Why aren't they just plug and play. If there is "Airprint", network printing etc. why is there not a simple standard that "just works" for wired connections?

Thanks for all the advice, unfortunately nothing worked except for dragging it down to my basement studio where I have an old iMac stationed. That worked, but certainly not convenient.

Oh, well.

Printer suggestions, anyone? Probably don't need fax capabilities this time
