Anything crashes on print

Ok this one's driving me nuts and I need help from the forum.

1.5GHz Mini Solo, 2GB RAM, hooked up directly to a brother 1440 laser printer. This printer is also shared on the network.

Print jobs work fine when sent from another computer, through the network. Powerbook, PCs, whatever. But when I try to print something natively, the application crashes.

I suspected a font issue, but this is not a design computer, it basically only has default fonts installed. I tried turning all the user fonts, but that didn't work either.

Tried repairing permissions. Tried cleaning out caches and running maintenence through onyx. Nothing so far has worked.

Ideas? Pleeeeease¿

Dumped its pref (.plist) files and drivers, and then reinstalled drivers?

I'll try switching cables, but i figured if networked computers can print to it, the cable is probably fine?

i dumped prefs but haven't tried reinstalling drivers... will try that tonight when i get back home.
