Lost one engine on the way up for sure.

Did they turn off the second?

Good first try landing on a single engine.

Yeah, this test was more successful than I expected it to be. I’d even say it was a win.

Delta V is a bitch to control, especially in 3 dimensions simultaneously.

I know nothing, but it seems as tho having the bottom open like it was would have messed up everything with air rushing into it? like a parachute?

I know barely a little more than nothing, so I'd guess once that bottom end 'fills' with air, it would act as if it were closed off on the bottom. Still a bit of a destabilizing effect probably. However, I'm sure all that thrust provided by the swiveling Raptor engines were more than enough to counteract any and all destabilizing tendencies (did you see how fast the Starship flipped around once the engines were relit?). Bottom line I suspect 1 of the 3 engines failed, and so they didn't have enough thrust to cushion the landing.

Funny thing is, the engine that shut off on ascent DID relight on the landing translation (or, so say the folks that have already run the 4k video frame-by-frame).
I thought it odd that one of the already lit engines flashed green with TEA-TEB starting fluid (hypergolic starter), but, the one that did not relight didn't.

I expect we'll get some tweets in the next couple days.

The coolest thing was, even if there were "unplanned' engines "out"... it retained positive control through the WHOLE flight! It even "landed" right on target... just a teensy bit too fast.

I wish there'd been some commentary during the flight on at least one video, so that we knew when 'they' knew that it was moving too quick.

There was a point were it was obvious to me that SN8 was moving to fast and there was no three-wire to save it.

But somebody who knew something surely had an 'This isn't going to end well' moment.

Still in all, damned impressive.

Basically things went bad only at the last second (literally) when the engine started to spotter only a few feet off the ground.

Yup... when you started seeing green exhaust, things were going badly.
An engineer joked "it was engine rich combustion"... meaning, it engine was eating itself due to a lack of fuel, and an excess of liquid oxygen. Introduce liquid oxygen to a hot engine with not enough fuel to "eat", and it'll eat whatever is handy... like your expensive rocket engine.
Heard that tidbit this morning watching a "post game" replay.
