Maybe it's time to put the antiques away somewhere.

If its sufficient and works for you, keep using it.

...but there's much better wifi access points and routers out there at this point.

Not as simple, but simple enough.

Me too. Set it and forget it. I realize I will probably need to replace it sometime, but for now it's working fine.

I would do a factory reset before before deciding it was dead. The internet outage may have done something to it.

....reset the cable modem and the Apple Airport Extreme multiple times......the Extreme kept disconnecting from the modem [ as per the internet provider - they could see it constantly disconnecting ].......

Same here. I gradually pieced together a pretty nice UniFi set up of APs, PoE switch, and controller, but the Airport Extreme still leads the way. I'll replace it with UniFi's gateway at some point, but I'm not in any hurry.

I’m still using three in my house. It’s weird that your won’t work even after a factory reset but it’s an inexpensive item and easy enough to replace.

I'm still running with an Airport Extreme that maxes out at 802.11n. The techie in me screams that I should upgrade to something modern (i.e. FASTER!) but this thing just continues to work and has such a low profile presence in my living room - nothing else would fit into the space where my router is currently located nearly as well.

It is what it is.

We have a still working Airport Extreme in our extended family. Has been a terrific product.

Missed my Airport Extreme when I tried a handful of other routers with middling success before finally setting up my netgear orbi system, which has been utterly flawless and fast.

I get near-full internet speeds -- 350 hardwired in the living room; 345 here in my office (through several walls, including brick) -- using wired connection to the satellite in here thanks to the orbi's dedicated backhaul channel.

I do wish Apple would have stayed in the game for a number of reasons, but I'm happy with the replacement I got.

Sounds great. How much was that orbi system?

The Bezos sale last month had the 3 pack for $175. That's when I picked mine up. As mentioned, they are fast and trivial to set up.

Forgot to mention; I used the iPhone app I think maybe 3 or 4 times since installing it: when I installed the original 3 orbi system, when I added a 4th satellite, and then maybe twice to just check on software updates. Setup was simple and quick.

I paid a hefty bit more a few years ago for it; still, no regrets. Got the extra satellite for my wife's iMac so she could use the full backhaul channel as well. (FWIW, my whole system is the larger, tri-band desktop/tabletop satellites b'c of the backhaul channel and not the little ones (wall-plug version or tabletop 2-band)

I need to get a new mesh system, my 5th gen extreme isn't cutting it for our devices.

We have been pleased with our low-cost google first gen mesh system. Very robust, just not the fastest out there. For serious internet, we have wired so this lower speed is not a bottleneck.

A couple of months back I bought the latest AirPort Extreme from a work bulletin board for $25. My old/current one is working fine but for $25, this will be my backup. I still have a couple of unused original Airports...

I had an Airport Express that would drop down to about 700kbs from a max speed of 12mbsdown 1mbs up. I thought it was my internet connection. After I called Cox cable support they told me it was my router. So I bought an Asus gaming router. I now have 142mbs down and 20mbs up connection. I didn't know I had that fast a connection.

Both my son and I had last generation Airport Extremes. He recently moved into a camper in my backyard while doing graduate school and I set up his AE as a wifi extender. He went from 2 bars to 5 bars

I've got the last two Gens of AirPorts.

Right now I'm using the last Gen (Gen 6?).

I get a stronger signal on the WiFi side because it's more powerful than the Gen 5.

But my throughput from Sonic is weak, and a 'better router' won't help that.
