My microwave broke (with snow on the way)

After about 30 years, my beloved Sharp Half Pint finally died.

I am replacing with an Insignia(!!!) house brand from Best Buy. After doing some reading on Wirecutter, I discovered that almost all the mid-sized and compact microwaves are made by the Midea company in China (there are exceptions, but they either use that company's parts or just plain aren't an improvement)

The only problem is that they won't have it for pickup until Sunday. Needless to say, having a microwave delivered is not a chance I'm willing to take, the damage potential and delays are too great)

Best Buy is giving me 10% for my birthday (Happy SteveGmas December 21st, a reminder) and I have points gift certificates for $75, so the whole deal including subways is costing me about $15.

This unit should not have any greater potential to explode than any other. I will miss not having microwave popcorn for the storm, but that looks like it's going to flame out (mixed with rain only about 5-8 inches).

I'll post a review. It's 1000 watt 1.1 cubic foot model.

1000W is good for that size.

Have you got room for the new microwave?

Twice the cubic feet and almost twice as powerful as your old one. Don't burn the popcorn!

Top of the refrigerator. Plugs into same utility circuit breaker socket. Being tall makes it no problem.

The Half Pint was perfect for my needs. It will be missed.

You are a very tall man, or have a very short refrigerator.

I look forward to your review.

My Litton 600W tank died after 44yrs of faithful service.

I've yet to replace it, so I'm looking.

Did you save the magnetron from your old microwave for use as a HERF gun ?

Really liking my new Panny NN-SN67HS. [forums.macresource.com]

Physically smaller than the LG it replaced but its capacity is 1.2cf vs 1.1cf
and it's 1250w vs 1100w; then there's the whole inverter thing.
Bonus, it is not made by Midea!

I am still using my Panasonic of 20+ years. Still going strong. The light bulb is burned out, but otherwise still does a great job.

Snap!

Four days ago our microwave died after 36 years of excellent service. We have replaced its 700W with a Panasonic 1000W and so far we are very happy.

I was wondering about this recently, as my parents had to replace their machine this year after only about 10 years. Not making 'em like they used to I guess.

Yeah. I have not looked up how to do this on my machine, yet.

My 30+ year old Kenmore is still working well, but one of the lights for the LCD display has gone out. Have not found directions yet on how to get into that area of the microwave to replace the bulb.
