Any songs that you feel must be listened all the way through or it's disrespectful, even sacrilegious to the music god who made it?

Anything from Pink Floyd, 1970 - 1983 (except for songs from the movie soundtrack albums "Obscured by Clouds" and "More.")

The Ring Cycle.

Or if you really don't have that many days, a Mahler symphony might do.

ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, with the [pseudo-]choral reprise. Often cut in radio play.

The station close to here just cut of the final E chord of "A Day In the Life" after about 4 seconds.

Now this is a truly spectacular song. "Song" doesn't even begin to cover it. "Composition" would be a far better description. You can probably count the number of pop songs on the fingers of one hand that are like this.

I had some friends in college that refused to EVER interrupt a Led Zeppelin song. Arrive at location, shut off car, get out and go - EXCEPT if Led Zeppelin was coming out of the speakers, then we had to wait until the song ended. MADDENING!

We got together when in our late 30s and they were STILL DOING IT.

Me personally - I don't believe in music gods. Great music is made by people.

I'd go with "Magnum Opus"

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Any song should be listened to from beginning to end. I have a thing about songs being cut short after the "good part."

Jethro Tull’s Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day. I hear it on the classic rock channels about once every 3-3 years.

Ah, now I know why my doc is always running late. People with that rule when In My Time of Dying comes on the radio as they pull in to the parking lot.

That said, IMToD is a *fantastic* song.

My vote would be for Mr. Bojangles, by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

That song is so sad it MUST be played in its entirety. sad smiley

She's Come Undone by The Guess Who
We Belong by Pat Benatar (& Neil Gerardo)
Ghost in You by Psychedelic Furs
Band on the Run by Paul McCartney & Wings
Only You by Yaz (Or Yazoo depending on your preference)
Everlong by Foo Fighters
Soul & Inspiration by The Righteous Brothers
Fade Into You by Mazzy Star
You Are My Kind by Santana/Seal
Kind & Generous by Natalie Merchant
Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush

For me, most of those must be played all the way through not as respect to the rock gods, but as fond tributes to dear people who decorated my life but have passed on. There are more songs that fit one or both those categories, but I'll stop there.
