Music video's appear small on tv

I downloaded some youtube christmas video's, put them into iTunes, created a playlist, and went to my tv to play them (via AppleTV). Unfortunately they show up in a very small box on the screen. I used the tv's zoom feature but it can't zoom enough to fill the screen. Any ideas how I can fix this? Video resolution is 1920x1080 and the tv is an LG 65" OLED.

If I press the menu button and then the trackpad button the video does zoom to full screen but once it moves to the next video it's back to a small box.

Thanks for any ideas.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

open that video in VLC instead and see how it looks. Looks to me that the movie was created with that dead white space - note the rounded corners or the video and what's the text doing there?

The video is full screen in VLC and does not have the rounded corners, text etc seen on this screen. It's definitely Apple's "Computers" app that is doing it but I have no idea why.

Normally your TV would upscale the 1080p source material and display it fullscreen. It sounds like your Apple device may be presenting a 4K signal to your TV with the 1080p source embedded at its native resolution — kinda like how older non-anamorphic DVDs would have black bars surrounding the video image.

It is what it is.

Apparently it's another bug in TVOS14. Bummer. I cannot understand how upgrades can take away features that were working fine before the upgrade. [forums.macrumors.com]

Who says Apple doesn’t consider this change to be a feature?

4K AppleTV with the touch-remote?

Gently double-tap the touchpad.

Probably not, Dave.

I have an LG 4k TV connected to an Apple TV 4k. Regardless of the source music video's resolution (some I tested were 640p), they would play full screen whether from the Computer app or the Music app.

Nope. My Apple TV is running the latest firmware.

AA did you let it play to the second video? Mine plays the first one full screen and then switches to the smaller view. Are you running 14.3? Thanks

Yes, running 14.3. I'll have to do the "next video" test later. I'll try to PM you, Dave.

Okay, I ran the "next video" test and behavior was as expected, i.e. all videos—regardless of source video resolution—play full screen.

I checked settings that may affect this on Apple TV…and there are none that I can see. I suspect it's a setting on your TV, Dave. My LG is set to to "Original" for aspect ratio.
