Fascinating and informative video-

Fake Flash Devices Are Everywhere! [www.youtube.com]

WARNING- If I posted a link in the above message, assume it is at minimum "NSFW- Language". Occasionally you'll be wrong.

I was suckered by some fake 512GB and 1TB drives a few months ago, definitely fell into the "too good to be true" category... I think the 512 was $12 and the 1TB was $28?

Problem is they each only wrote - slowly - about 120GB of data before acting goofy.

Fortunately I was able to return them to Amazon.

As always, when something sounds too good to be true, alarm bells should be going off in your head.

Looking at the page while he scrolled down on eBay... One of the "2TB" flash drives was £4.

That probably explains what happened with a cheap 128GB thumb drive I got on ebay (this was quite a while ago, so 128GB and 256GB drives were "big" then). I was trying to use it for an OS drive clone. It would write the whole clone very s l o w l y and then fail the checksum every time. It was probably writing the data into nowhere.
