This might be just the thing that brings GE back to life.

I wonder how environmentalists feel about turbines of this size. Wind turbines tend to be pretty hazardous to birds.

I would guess (I have no real knowledge, just a wild ass guess) that a large turbine is less dangerous than several small turbines.

I recently read somewhere that the Dutch found that painting one blade cut the bird kill something like 70%

Wind turbines tend to be pretty hazardous to birds.
As are other birds, aircraft, and cats. And birds are hazardous to aircraft,
auto finishes, and in some cases the environment.

I prefer wind turbines over nuclear fission powerplants anyday.

Wind turbines are a lot less hazardous to birds them fossil fuel power plants and all the consequences of their use. I think environmentalists are OK with them.

They keep getting bigger.

FWIW the “bird kill” is far lower than equivalent bird kill from glass buildings. And way lower than the kill by pet cats allowed outside.

Ultimately the “safest” green energy source is solar power with energy storage for nighttime. Wind comes in next. Note also that wind turbines require maintenance. Regular maintenance. And the big ones are HARD to set up. When my company put up a 2.5MW unit we rented the largest crawler crane in the north eastern US. It was booked up for 5 years.

Statistically, windmills aren’t that bad to birds. House cats kill WAY more birds than windmills do.

The bird-kill argument is, and always has been, an anti-climate change diversion tactic.

dead birds vs a climate that birds can survive in.
let alone all the other arguments for wind or solar.

The other big argument against wind power is that the turbines spoil the beautiful view that the rich and famous have from their expensive and exclusive east coast properties.

NIMBY!

Put those things where the poor people live instead!

Yes I read the same. Very promising data, sure to annoy all the NIMBY's even more!
