I see the way the pivot mechanism is slightly different, but is there any difference in the functionality of these tools?

Quick release... I see. I think I have some Irvin tools like that.

Finer opening adjustment on bottom one.

While the bottom set has finer adjustments, the upper pair will likely sustain greater grip strength without damage.

What that threshold is, I have no idea, and it very well could be that it wouldn't be approached by mere mortals.

I *love* SIGs. It's Glocks I hate.

My slip-joint pliers have a mechanism like the upper one. One annoying feature is that during readjusting my grip, like to change the angle, the loosened jaws can easily slip into another fulcrum position and thus the closing angle changes, oftentimes no longer closing tightly on the work piece. It looks like the bottom pliers lock into a fulcrum position and has finer control over opening angles too.

I like and use the Irwin version of that all the time.

No experience with that brand or a similar design. I have a 35 year old version of these.
