After sixteen years... Am I done?

I have posted a couple of times about shooting images of a tree that's in a hayfield by the road on our way Up North. I thought I would do the standard four seasons thing with it and figured it would be done pretty quickly as we were going up a lot back then during the building of our cottage.

Well, the first image was shot back in 2004 (the Summer pic).

And I just got what I think is the final image I need-after sixteen years! It took that long simply because I wanted to keep the sky consistent, even tho the Winter sky doesn't usually have light and fluffy clouds.

So for all this time, I've had to be ready for the right time and last Monday the opportunity presented itself on our way back home from the New Year weekend!

This still has a few tweaks I need to do for the final image but, what do you all think? Am I done?

Regardless if you got it right or not, I'd say that looks great and it is a pretty neat idea!

Wonderful. You're done. But I think you should keep photographing the tree anyhow, because it might miss you if you stop now.

Someday it will be gone. There was an old oak just north of my house that I kept telling myself to photograph it in its various seasons and phases. It had long limbs drooping almost to the ground—a beautiful magnificent specimen. I thought it was far enough back from the road as to survive a bit longer, so I neglected the project. It is now gone, pulled down when the new doctors office/outpatient surgery center was built. Every time I drive by that place, I regret not photographing that tree. Silly, I know.

Y'know y'coulda Photoshopped the sky in about, say, oh, maybe like, uh, fourteen years...

Thought about it but that would be cheating! No, I was bound and determined to get it when the conditions were right. I have pictures that I have taken over the years, but the Winter one was the toughie. I needed snow and the right sky.

But I think you should keep photographing the tree anyhow, because it might miss you if you stop now.

Every time I drive by that place, I regret not photographing that tree. Silly, I know.

Not silly at all! I will keep documenting it. My images show changes over the years. You can see some lumber harvested and the tree has grown a bit. Also, other images I've shot show the tree-a Sugar Maple-has slightly different colors during the progression of Autumns. And even tho that area is pretty sparsely populated, over the years I have seen a lot or field disappear with a small building or barn going up in it's place...

Thx, all, for the kind words-

I just thought of this too; four different cameras! But always the 24mm focal length with 2:3 (35mm format).

That's really neat! I think of compiling seasonal photos I've taken from our dock over the years, but haven't got round to it.

Has that tree not grown at all in 16 years?

That's very cool!

Based on the pine trees in the background right, it looks like the spring/summer pics at the top were taken at about the same time while the fall/winter pics at the bottom were taken about the same time. It's interesting how much those pines grew in 16 years!

Way cool, Doc! I've considered a Sun annulus image but here, the Sun goes away in November and doesn't come back till April! Pops out now and then-that's about it. That's a good reason why it took so long for the right conditions.

Has that tree not grown at all in 16 years?

A little bit but it seemed to be pretty mature even when I started recording.

As far as a timeline, Summer, again, was started in 2004. Spring was shot in 2009, Fall was 2018, and Winter last Monday.

Oh-and one (and done, Newt) last thing, I like the shadow of the tree, showing the Sun's progression throughout the yearly cycle. Another reason I wanted to get a sunny day...

Ha ha, that new Sky Replacement tool in PS works really well!

But no, this 16-year time-lapse is better, and beautiful. Time for you to make a framed set of prints!
