IRS rant

See previous post

My wife and I file jointly our taxes, with my wife listed as the primary. I paid the bill from MY account in April. That, apparently, confused the IRS, and they did not apply payment. I spoke with IRS in August - the fellow explained the error and said it would be sorted out.

Two weeks ago ago, I received a notice of intent to seize my property.
I sent a letter with delivery confirmation, along with proof of payment.
The letter was received ten days ago.

I just checked online - they say they are currently in the process of seizing property.

Come on, now!

I've been on hold for an hour, waiting to speak with someone.
The alternative is to go in person to the local office and catch COVID-19.
I'm not happy.

End of rant.
Thank you for reading, and have a good day.

The pace over there is absolutely glacial. My son filed in July (under the COVID extension), but forgot to sign the return. Took them three months to tell him, and three months after he filed the correction he's still waiting for his refund.

Glacial is the perfect word for that.

I hear you. They have absolutely no motivation to get things done quickly. After all, they have your money, why would they care? It's only when you have their money that actions are swift.

So sorry.
Years ago we had a long drawn out incident with the IRS. It took hours and hours on the phone with them to get it sorted out.
It was awful.
I finally got one lady who literally went into a stack of papers and made it happen. Till that, it was nothing but a runaround.
I hope it works out quickly for you. Fingers crossed.

We had done nothing at all wrong, like you, but it still took FOREVER to get it fixed.

welcome to the middle class, the piñata for the IRS.
I went thru some 5h1t with them last week on the phone.
3 hours over 2 days.
I finally gave in and paid the penalty.
Then submitted some form in hopes of getting some back.

Is there even such a thing as an IRS rave?

It is what it is.

Good luck, 2020 was a record year for me with TWO tax issues - in both cases, mistakes at the other end (IRS for one, state for another). Took me months to resolve one, still working on the second (but none have property loss at risk!)

There’s a reason why their budget has been pared down. But that’s for the other side. They simply do not have enough employees.

I get a 4883C Identity letter for my 16 year old daughter. Have tried to call the provided phone number multiple times every day this week. "our agents are busy, please try again tomorrow".

I don't want the government in charge of healthcare, based on this.

PS Good luck - you may want to try getting an appt at your local IRS office and see if you can handle things mask to mask.

I spent 1 hour 14 minutes on hold, spoke with someone for 3 minutes, then got disconnected.

I went to make an appt at the local IRS office, but the services offered at that location don't include addressing this sort of problem.

I'm filing a form 9423 (collection appeal request) by mail, and we'll see where that goes.

This thread is a good example of why I'm grateful I no longer pay federal taxes.

Need to move states, though...

I've always found that a sufficiently long, well written letter gets them off my back for at least a few months - often permanently. Working by phone is not the solution.
