I intensely dislike all of the Geico celebrity ads, especially Little Richard. But that's just my opinion. I also dislike the cave man ads. Neither would convince me to buy anything.

The Geico ads search for the lowest common denominator in human intelligence. I imagine their next ads will find a lower level (or create one). Simply put if these ads come on I at a minimum hit the mute, but more likely change the channel or turn off the tv - the peace and quiet is relaxing.

Little Richard is downright scary in that thing - I always think he looks like he belongs in the nut house.

Now that one with the "Announcer Guy from the Movies" was pretty creative. Everytime I hear that voice on a Movie trailer, I think of that Geico commercial so the Ads do work.

Probably not. But as my wife noted, once insurance companies think it's safe to make fun of the President to sell thieir product, we've entered a new reality viv a vis credibility. I think she's right, what do you think?

we already had Geico, so there was no need to convince. But the Lil Richard ad is a
funny.

if that ad is playing to the lcd and it sells their stuff, so be it. I never graduated high skool, so that must be me.
I hope the next lot of caveman ads involves as much farting as an ep of Family Guy. But with thee evolved cast doing it.

TV, last I heard, is all about entertainment. Considering some of the junk on and what I work on, a good bit of entertainment is welcome.
Sure beats hearing the dead count at night.

If you watch the woman closely, I'm pretty sure she was supposed to look at LR with a straight face and not respond to his WooOOOOOOoo. But she can't help herself!

THAT's an entertainer! heh.

I agree, the insurance companies' cred is diminished at that point.

And, what if those cavemen...oh nevermind.

I like their Smokey ads on radio. "I'm Smokey and I'm a hard-core biker".

The Geico ads are pure genius when you compare them to that idiot with the (Campbell's?) microwave soup.

I REALLY want to punch that guy.

Many of the Geico ads are brilliant, some are not.
They do not 'cater to the lowest common denominator,' whatever that means.
(I'm sure you think you're saying something profound when you say that, but you're not.)

Here's an article that explains why they are what the are.

Agreed.

I'm not familiar with the Geico caveman commercial, but I like the FedEx (?) caveman commercial. That cracks me up.

I don't like the "Smokey the Biker" commercial because there's just nothing clever about it.

But the others are pretty good. Charo translating *really* make me laugh.

Interesting article. I'd forgotten about those Geico commercials that would parody other commercials. Those were good. As were the "I just saved a bunch of money" spots. One thing I like about their advertising is that there are so many variations that it takes a long time to get sick of any one of them. I don't really like the Gecko so much now that he is rendered so cutesy and acquired the English accent. I like the caveman spots quite a bit. The celebrity ones don't tickle me so much but they are okay. Anything Geico does is superior to the screaming car commercials that will repeat endlessly throughout the course of an evening, same spot at every break, over and over ad infnitum ad nauseum.
