It looks like I may get an unexpected bonus of $850, and I'm trying to figure out what to spend it on (no, not hookers and booze!)

I'm thinking of replacing the audio/GPS head unit in our 2015 Prius-maybe $500
I don't need any clothes right now; the wine cellar is stocked...
Maybe a second (used) refrigerator/freezer-out single one is too full too often.
Maybe a splurge on a Benchmark DAC/Headphone amp, maybe $600?
Maybe a nice ($300) pair of headphones?
Maybe a color laser printer, about $300. We don't need much, if any color printing, though?
A super-nice bottle of cognac for $200-that would be a splurge, all right, but I'm not drinking much these days.
Maybe give some to my friends who could use a couple of extra bucks right now, or to a good charity--hmm, that has the most zing to it, for me.
Oooh, I know--our car has some significant scrapes--get those fixed!

Any other thoughts out there?

Hookers and booze.

Boring, I know, but I'd say tuck it away for when you might need it. Eventually you'll need tires for the car(s), your water heater may crap out, etc.

Or you could mask up and find a nice restaurant that's still open and treat yourselves to a quiet night out.

Invest in glorious mutual funds.

I wouldn't put money into vehicle cosmetics, unless there is bare metal that will rust if neglected.

Although if you are in the car a lot then a new head unit might be a good choice.

2nd fridge also nice if you have the space and don't mind a slightly higher electric bill.

But how about something that will save you money instead? Higher efficiency water heater? Better insulation around the house?

We purchased a freezer for the basement to supplement the fridge in the kitchen about a year ago. It's been such a pleasure to have the extra food storage space and not have to cram everything into the kitchen fridge like Tetris.

What would I do? Pay off my Visa to bring it back to where it belongs; $0.00. I seldom carry a balance, but this Christmas came up on me too fast.

If I was at zero, where I normally am, I'd sock it away in a CD. Not for the pathetic interest rate, but as a means to keep it a LITTLE harder to spend. Keep it as a reserve of "fun money" or "darn it, the xyz broke unexpectedly!".
Always nice knowing it's there. Or that you're $850 closer to a larger expenditure.

A couple of days ago would've been a good time to buy AAPL. They shot up pretty good yesterday or the day before.

I'm in the process of buying a new house, so for me I'd spend it on either the new house, or fixes on the current one.

But my thought is, if you have bills that aren't up to date, you really should spend it on paying off (or partially paying off) those. If you don't have any, and don't have issues with keeping up with your bills, then by all means spend it on yourself.

I'd buy shares of Novonix. They make accelerated battery testing equipment as well as a synthetic graphite component that has been shown to improve battery longevity and charging speed. Jeff Dahn, battery guru at Delhausie Univ, in cooperation with Tesla, has been developing the tech for quite a while.

Bills are all up to date. Investing maximum in 13-year-old daughter's college fund. Investing 5% of income in 401K equivalent. About to refinance house at 1.875% or 2.0%, at nearly same payment as now, but dropping to 15 years instead of remaining 23.

I'm ready to splurge here! Maybe some Apple stock, maybe that Novonix.

Forget AAPL (maybe because I'm already overloaded in that stock and think that it's ready for a correction), NFLX was the stock to be in on this week. It went up 16% on Tuesday.

On a more domestic note, we just bought a second fridge. We redesigned our kitchen in 2012 and put in a $3000 fridge. It barely holds anything and freezes half the stuff it does hold but it looks great. Broke down and bought a $500 LG (20 cubic feet) that holds much more food, food lasts longer, but it looks...like a plain white fridge. Love it!!! Best $500 spent in recent memory.
