Paging Paul F... "Sell By 1/21 " Chicken. Cooking it now. Will we die ?

It's not too late to order out. I did wash it all off, it did not feel 'slimy' like you normally get with a bacterial bloom. It's been refrigerated at 34F since I bought it on the 22nd (Yea really I didn't see the date until now). Making Chicken Paprikash (stew style) with Spaetzle...

And my barely functional sense of smell can't really detect impending gastrointestinal disasters.....

Just make sure it is cooked at 350º for a decent interval.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER

If it smells good, its good, but I'd also roast at a high temp (450?) to be on the safe side. No need to overcook, the pathogens stick to the outside.

You shouldn't wash chicken. It should go from the freezer/fridge to the cooking container, so as to avoid cross contamination.

Raw chicken is only safe for about two days in the fridge. You should buy it and then either cook it the same day or freeze it. You are waaaaaay past that. Throw it out!

Also, washing chicken or other meats is a mistake. All it does is move the pathogens around and contaminate other surfaces that the water gets on.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

It's only been around 7 hours. It needs to ferment a while for full effect. Let's see how you feel tomorrow morning.

When I had food poisoning, I woke up feeling fine, laid there for a few minutes mentally sketching out a rough plan for the day's events (it was an off day, of course), and it hit me instantly like a ton of bricks so hard when I sat up that I barely made it to the toilet in time for the first power heave.

I sincerely hope you still feel as good tomorrow morning as you do tonight. Put a bucket beside the bed just in case.

Raw poultry is always a bacterial soup.

ALWAYS

In restaurants, it's actually against the law to have raw poultry above other foods in a fridge. It HAS to be at the bottom of the fridge.
