You CAN touch this? Rumors on next iPhone...

... to include a new in-screen touchID alongside FaceID.

Seems smart, I do not think face mask use will be gone in 6 months, at least in the health care and related circles.

Agreed on all counts.

But I think Apple may have been looking at dual IDs before COVID.

It placates both preferences of Face and Touch ID.

My 5s and OG SEs used Gen 1 Touch ID, so I have no experience with Gen 2.

Touch ID was maybe 95% functional, as sometimes multiple tried or a different finger were needed to unlock the 'Phone, then it was back to business as usual, as though nothing happened.

Face ID has been extremely accurate on my 12 mini, and I'm impressed how fast it unlocks.

There still the cognizant delay of me realizing that the shackle is open and I'm free to browse about the 'Phone.

But then there's the annoyance of the 'Phone opening up to the last app used, instead of the Home screen, as with Touch ID.

That does bug me— a lot, on occasion.

A 12 mini with both IDs would make me very happy.

mine does nothing. I look at the screen, the lock swivels... and Im still starting at the lock screen. Have to swipe up to see my home screen.

Annoying.

Wish it would always open to my home screen.

What I don't understand is, why can't they simply build Touch ID into current phones, either by way of the camera or the touch surface of the screen?

I would have put it on the Apple Logo on back!
