We have a hard time just finding "local" pizza that's good. =(

Tried a new 4.5 star place pre-pandemic that said "we don't have green peppers cause the owner doesn't like them"... WTF?

wifes go to is green pepper, olive, white onion + crispy pepperoni ... so fail. Will never go back.

Ditto. Their only purpose is to use the cheapest ingredients possible to maximize profits for their corporate owners.

Every time I've bought chain pizza, my reaction has always been "this is pretty bad, why did I do this".

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

The OP was "What national chain has the best thin crust pizza?"

I took that to mean "What is the best thin crust pizza of any national chain?"

"Great" was not obviously implied, nor easily inferred.

Newman’s pizza did very well in a recent L.A. Times comparison: [www.latimes.com]

While Shakey’s pizza is better than it has any right to be, it is by no means great.

My vote for best national brand is Round Table.

That is truly a candidate for Kitchen Nightmares!
How do 'restaurants' like that stay in biz??
Imagine walking in a coffee shop and being told "we don't have sugar
because the owner doesn't like it".

I absolutely agree, but I often come away with the opposite reaction after paying $$$.

ain't it so. What National chain of any ff is any good.

Glad to live in a very Italian area. We have a few great ones locally.
Though making pizza crust is so easy, sometimes it's hard to justify $16 or whatever for a pie. A slice though .....

Donatos all the way for flat crust. Not sure if it's national, but regional for sure.

But, like all of the above posts, local is the way to go!

How "thin" is thin. I will eat Domino's super thin crispy crust. Domino's reg thickness is ok.

I avoid "Pan" Pizzas that are >75% bread.

Lucianos in malls is pretty good. They have flame ovens. Possibly wood fired.

Anything that's 75% bread is not pizza.

Pan pizza can be made in many delicious forms - packed with cheese, red sauce, meat, veggies (and maybe even pineapple, but I think that's wrong). Can be even a form with dual crusts ('stuffed'). But full of bread? Not pizza.

I concur - there are few chains that make pizza that compares to the best local restaurants. I am not a fan of most thin pizzas, but a good brick oven pizzaria in most places will make something fresh better than anything I've eaten from a chain - just avoid the 'brick oven' chains, they are often terrible. Also be comfortable with the local innovations, many are surprising but yummy!

In the Northeast there are many pizza shops owned by Greek immigrant families. The style of pizza most serve is a thicker crust that I prefer to the thin crust. It is cooked in a pan, but not super thick like Chicago style, and has plenty of topping.

Thin crust pizza is more like tomato paste on a cracker, and an abomination.

And I've had a lot of pan pizza, my favorite, and have never seen one that 75% bread,

Not even 50%.

Maybe you're thinking of focaccia, LOL.
