1) Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is dead. That's it.. just dead.

2) There really WAS a Cylon ship in those gas giant clouds... she punched out, and the Cylons grabbed her.

3) She's not dead, but something more plausible than what I've come up with for #2 happened.


Feel free to add your own #4, 5, etc.

Oh, and if anyone has any REAL "spoilers" for future episodes.... I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW! Thanks....

Well you must have watched it off a satellite feed because I'm in the same state as you but saddeled with Comcast cable and the show will not be on for another 20 or so minutes. It's gonna be good and I'll love to read the reactions of the other fans here too.

Well she could very well be dead. However, did Apollo get a glimpse of the Heavy Raider just before Starbucks Viper exploded? It seemed to me that the way the shots were edited, we saw a forward view from Apollo's perspective showing the Raider cutting across the nose of Starbuck Viper.

I have yet to edit the episode, but I really need to see that sequence again.

What else from the episode might support "dead or not dead"?

It seems to me, that they spent way to much time with this art work she was drawing since a kid, to simply build it up to a simple and quick death in her Viper. I think something else is up that hasn't unfolded yet. I hope that whatever unfolds isn't a stupid storyline. I have been fairly happy with this program so far. This Cylon seems to be in her head the same way as the other Cylon is in Baltar's head...

I wish the first run episodes were in HD instead of waiting until later to see it in on UHD. The flying sequences in this episode were fun to watch! It's amazing how far special effects have come for TV programs...

I've missed most of the run since November. I really, really wish they'd announce when the S3 DVD set is coming out.

FWIW, I liked the whole 2.0/2.5 season release. It gave me a chance to catch up before the second half started, so to speak.

Now Kara can't be completely dead (just a little) because she has a "Destiny" which will have to be played out. Maybe she becomes the top ace for a "Ship of Lights" fleet!

I read every BSG site I could find. There isn't anything definitive, but it looks like Kara is dead. Dead in as John Edwards campaign to be President : )

Why? Her name is off the credits for the rest of the year. In some of the interviews, she pretty much as said she was leaving.

Then again, it might be misdirection and she might for instance be one of the final five?

I liked Starbuck as the hero, but I was getting tired of Starbuck as the psychotic @#$%& as she was portrayed as this year. So if they were going to continue to write her into the ground, then killing her character was a good thing.

Anyway, if she if totally gone from the show, interviews will be popping up rather soon I would guess.

Right, just finished watching the show with RDMs podcast and from what I can gather that's it for Starbuck. But then again he didn't say she was gone for good. By his discription of the the reactions of the cast and crew, it's most likely a done deal. As good as this show is, I've got to wonder why build up the notion that Kara Thrace has a destiny to fulfill, only to let it go hanging like this. I don't get it, there's got to be something else in the works.

first of all, she hit something in flight. Clipped the phantom Raider?

Latter on she finally nails the Raider, maybe even collides with it and punches out? All Lee sees is the explosion and he gets the hell out of there, thinking she is dead.

OK, so I just watched it, and here's what I have to say:

1) It's pretty clear to me that they left her death ambiguous. You notice how Leoben made reference to her exploring a place between life and death. Guess where we've heard that before? It's from D'Anna's comment about how she found a place between life and death which was "beautiful" and which finally led toward her discovering who the Final Five were.

2) I agree, does seem pretty stupid to go so heavy-handed on the "you have a destiny" stuff, only to end it with her dying in a fairly unspectacular way. (At least unspectacular as in being totally nonheroic, and therefore utterly out of character for her.)

3) We never did get an explanation of the significance of her drawings, other than the similarity to the Eye of Jupiter. The implication is that somehow she has had a past life, back when the humans left for Earth, and as Leoben says, "everything that has happened before, will happen again".

4) Sure, the actress is out for the rest of the season, but doesn't mean she won't pop back up sometime later.

5) Despite #4, I doubt she's a Cylon or a member of the Final Five. The part where she pointed out that Leoben wasn't Leoben was consistent with that-- if he had been Leoben, why would he try to conceal it?

6) Note that Starbuck's mom knew something about Starbuck's destiny being important.

7) Yes, a Cylon ship was shown heading away from Starbuck's viper, FROM the POV of Apollo's viper.

8) Awfully lot of plot threads they introduced in this element, in her backstory, which remain unresolved. Either they will eventually get resolved, or this was just very bad writing.

Anyway... here is my suggestion for what the explanation of what happened to Starbuck is (to answer Paul F's original question):

4) Starbuck has been spirited away to a faraway planet where her viper has crashed. There she encounters the remains of a Cylon craft, containing two dead Cylon toasters and one badly damaged. Out of pure loneliness, she repairs the badly damaged one one, and nicknames it "Cy"-- developing a friendship with the one-time enemy. Then she encounters a hunky guy who seems to come out of nowhere, who manages to get her pregnant. When other Cylons show up, Cy and Starbuck sacrifice themselves so that the hunky guy can take the baby back to the Fleet, where he becomes known as-- you guessed it-- Doctor Zee.

I think they've been hinting that Starbuck is a cylon for quite some time.
Baltar as well. How else could the cylons be in their heads with no chip or whatever?
