I started playing guitar again after a very, very long layoff.

I need a monitor/tv so I can watch YouTube vids giving guitar "lessons".

I can't see the screen properly on my old Macbook, so I'm wondering what the best way to get a 27-36-ish TV to hook up to said old Macbook.

Never thought about this before, have some decent Asus and Dell monitors on my Minis, and they plug right in.

What should I look for?

How old is the Macbook? What OS?

Now that the Apple TV (3rd generation) is starting to lose support for some apps I’ve been seeing them going cheap.

If your laptop supports it, it makes screen mirroring really easy.

Most TV's you can buy are SmartTV's - the YouTube app is built into the TV.

If we know what model MB you have, and what the inputs on your TV are, we could advise you on what cable to buy.

2.2 ghz intel core 2 duo

2 gb Ram.

I think, given the limitations of that laptop, that you should probably get a 4K Roku.

It has a YouTube channel and 4K Rokus support AirPlay which lets you stream video from iOS devices. (Assuming that you have iOS devices, it's a fair bet that any of them will be better for video than your MacBook.)

...The TV doesn't have to be 4K. It just has to have a spare HDMI port.

Is it a white MacBook? I think you'll need a "Mini DVI to HDMI" adapter if the TV has HDMI inputs (and an HDMI cable). If the TV has a DVI input, then a "Mini DVI to DVI" (with a standard DVI video cable).
